Katrina Tan took her first Pilates mat class while working in book publishing in New York. Sitting in front of a computer eight hours a day, she quickly realized the benefits of movement and started seeing improvement in her posture and overall health.
Katrina began training to become a Pilates instructor in 2013, shortly after relocating to Austin. In 2015, she successfully completed the Balanced Body Pilates Comprehensive Program. This program requires at least 500 hours of teaching, observation, anatomy and classroom hours as well as final written and practical exams to be considered fully qualified to teach Mat, Reformer, Tower, Chair and Barrels. Katrina was drawn to Balanced Body’s respectful approach to teaching the work of Joseph Pilates. Katrina is a certified Prenatal and Postnatal Pilates Specialist through the Center for Women's Fitness.
As an instructor, Katrina loves teaching her clients the principles of movement and encourages them to apply them outside of the studio, because understanding why an exercise is done is as important as learning how to do it. She takes time to demonstrate, explain, and correct form and alignment. She enjoys getting to know her clients as much as she does teaching them.
Outside of the studio, Katrina enjoys cooking and making ceramic pottery, as well as hanging out with her husband, daughter and 2 dogs.
